Why All Macon Decks Should be Archadeck Decks

It’s a simple fact that Archadeck of Central Georgia tops the list of deck builders Macon GA homeowners have come to trust. Locally owned since 1991, we have developed long-standing relationships in the community—in and around Macon and Warner Robins, too. Our clients don’t feel the need to “try someone else next time.” When they want to talk about adding a new deck, replacing an older deck or redecking, they call us.

Here is a good example of clients choosing us for return engagements: Archadeck of Central GA Proves 3-Times is the Charm for This Lovely Macon Deck. Don’t let the title of that blog post fool you into thinking it took three tries for us to get a job done correctly. We built the clients’ deck in 1992 and added a new section on a second level in 1996. Then, these Macon homeowners called us in 2020 when they were ready to refresh and update their deck. Yes, that was 28 years after we built it. We were able to complete this last project as a low-maintenance redeck rather than full deck replacement because the deck’s substructure remained in excellent condition.

Not All Macon Deck Builders are Custom Deck Builders

If you’ve seen neighborhoods with homes that all look alike, you can bet their decks all look alike, too. Those decks are what we would call cookie-cutter decks, and Archadeck of Central GA doesn’t build cookie-cutter decks. We custom design and build each of our decks for one unique client and their unique home.

As custom deck builders, we respect the preferences of our clients when it comes to deck design as well as materials. We don’t try to steer homeowners to one kind of decking material or one brand of railing. Instead, we make sure they are aware of the various options from pressure-treated wood to hardwoods and low-maintenance composite and synthetic decking.

We understand that different homeowners have different priorities. When a client lets us know keeping costs down is their top priority, we design and build their pressure-treated wood deck with pride. We will not try to sell them a deck designed with more costly hardwoods or composites. Meanwhile, if reducing deck maintenance is a client’s priority, we show them composite decking options that work with their budget. Here’s a perfect example: Macon GA’s Barrington Hall Homeowners Love Their New Deck Replacement. Notice the new deck railing is a mixture of materials including low-maintenance, splinter-free composite rail cap combined with wood posts and rails for cost savings.

A New Wood Deck for a Vintage 1920’s Home in Macon, GA

When it comes to meeting special requirements for an outdoor living project, Archadeck of Central Georgia will partner with you to bring your new space through completion.

We worked with this Macon family to achieve very specific outdoor living requirements.  Before this project began, we facilitated acquiring a variance from planning and zoning, ensuring this family would be able to enjoy their backyard space as they wanted to.

Macon GA deck contractor

This family in the Ridge Avenue area conveyed not only a desire to have a more usable space out back, but their project required some special consideration, as well.  With children, a low-to-grade wood deck with surrounding steps was an obvious choice.  This option also allowed Archadeck of Central Georgia to keep this cozy backyard’s living space lower so that a view of the homes beyond the privacy fence was obstructed.  This will do the same from beyond the confines of the fence, maintaining privacy while using the deck.  Not only will the steps from the deck accommodate lots of playtime and entertaining foot traffic, but they also create extra seating and lend themselves to seasonal décor, like potted plants.

A deck with ample area in a small space is possible with proper design considerations.

If you think your cozy backyard area will not accommodate a deck to fill all your needs, talk with Archadeck of Central Georgia.  We were able to build an impressive deck expanse for these Macon homeowners, with enough space for grilling, dining, and relaxing.

Since the home has a 4-foot drop-off from the back door to the ground, we built a new pressure-treated wood step.  As well, we built a step for the second back door, which is no longer a usable door.  This provides a cohesive aesthetic, and even additional play space or seating.  The low-to-grade deck design only required railing on one corner, keeping the deck expanse feeling open and un-cramped.

Vintage homes require newfangled solutions.

As these homeowners live in a 1920’s-era home, there are no gutters.  We built a special feature on their deck, by way of the planter box, which will be filled with plants and gravel to create a drain tile, where rainwater will come from the house, into the planter, and through to the yard underneath.  These homeowners innovated the same draining system in their yard, as well.  A testament to the adage, “Necessity is the mother of invention.”

A deck that could have belonged to southern rock royalty

Juliette-TimberTech deck stone skirtingFamilies grow and change over time.  The good news is that your outdoor living spaces can do the same.  We recently had the opportunity to do a makeover on a multi-level deck which we originally built in 1992.  We remembered working on this home because it was previously owned by the Allman Brothers.  The framing was still in good shape, but the floor and railings had weathered over the last 22 years and the needs of the family had changed so we came over to consult on an upgrade/makeover.

The original deck had several levels that stylishly connected the home to the swimming pool.  The kids were young the first go-around and getting them to and from the pool and having a good view of the water were the top design concerns at the time.  This year the clients wanted to create a more relaxed, living room-type space looking out at the pool and surrounding woods.  The house has log cabin construction that fits very naturally with the lot and we aimed to keep the refurbished deck consistent with that look.  To that end, we will stain the wood areas to match the home.

Juliet GA composite TimberTech deckWe built the lowest level up to match the height of the largest existing section.  This allows for plenty of space for eating and entertaining.  There are now two eating areas with great flow between them for mingling or just moving about.  Multiple deck levels are ideal for allowing either for multiple use or for breaking groups into different clusters: think teens at one table and adults at another.

The decks are surrounded by new, solid skirting with doors underneath, garnering the family ample, secure outdoor storage.  Composite materials have come a long way in recent years.  For this update the family selected TimberTech decking to build the floors and rail caps.  The railings are stained wood with black pickets and provide the necessary safety without compromising the view to the water and trees.
